Have you seen Hello Alice’s crowdsourced Black-Owned Business Directory? The database contains hundreds of incredible Black-owned small businesses located across the country, each with their own impact on their community. We can’t wait for this list to grow even more in the coming months.

Targeted support for these New Majority owners is crucial — especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. A recent Hello Alice Impact Report revealed the unique and persistent barriers faced by Black-owned businesses, including access to capital, lack of generational wealth, and the need for support from investors, industry groups, and government leaders.

That’s why we were proud to see Phyllis Newhouse, the founder and CEO of Xtreme Solutions and a Hello Alice investor, step up and create the #SeeTheColor challenge to amplify stories about outstanding Black business owners.

How do you participate? First, pick a Black business owner that goes above and beyond. Then you can take to social media and either post a photo of the nominee or record a 30-60 video with the following information:

  • Name of the business
  • Name of the business owner
  • Why this person makes a positive impact on the community

Be sure to use the #SeeTheColor hashtag in the post and consider tagging Phyllis on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or LinkedIn. If you join the #SeeTheColor Facebook group, you will be considered for a chance to appear on the weekly LITalks Podcast, too. The idea is to simply spread joy and raise awareness of the amazing impact of Black business owners across America.

Below, check out some of the nominations and more instructions on how to participate in the challenge via Instagram:

I am so excited to announce my newest challenge called #SeeTheColor – where I invite you to join me in supporting #BlackOwnedBusinesses across the country (including yourself!). Over the next month, I am calling on Black business owners and those who have been inspired by them to share their entrepreneurial stories (via video) with me on social media, using the hashtag #SeeTheColor. From there, I will share these videos to my social media feeds and ask my followers to do the same to keep these inspirational stories circulating! At the end of July, I will invite a few of these businesses onto my podcast, LITalks, to talk about their organization and the impact they are making in their community. See the instructions in the graphic to participate and listen to my latest #LITalks for the official announcement (link in bio)! Now let’s get those videos started!! #blackownedbusiness #blackentrepreneurs #blacklivesmatter #blm #challenge #motivation #dosomething #action #seethecolor #speakup #standup #shoulderup
